Frequently Asked Questions MediaHub

Select your question here:

Q: What is the difference between the Active MediaHub and the Passive MediaHub?
A: The differences between the Active and Passive Media Hubs are as follows:
Passive –
• Once the Passive MediaHub (PMH) has been connected to the television and the guest has connected their chosen equipment to the PMH the guest must then manually select the source on the television to find the device they have connected to the PMH.

Active –
• The Active MediaHub (AMH) must be set to either Set Top Box (STB) mode or TV mode depending on the AMH to television setup. Using the switches on the rear of the AMH.
• The AMH is able to ‘Auto Detect’ any sources that are active on the AMH as long as ‘Auto Detect’ is activated on the AMH. This means that the guest is able to connect their device to the AMH and once activated the AMH will automatically instruct the STB or TV to switch to the relevant source.
• The AMH also includes an inbuilt VGA to HDMi cable converter.

Q: Does the MediaHub only work with Philips TV's?
A: Teleadapt™’s MediaHub (MH) is able to function with several television manufacturers. However this does depend upon what MH is being used. Below are the differences with the MH’s
Passive –
• Can be used with all TV’s as long as the TV has the appropriate inputs inbuilt.

Active–
• Depending upon if the AMH is connected to an STB or Video on Demand (VOD) system or directly to the TV. The AMH will work with most TV’s if the AMH is connected via a STB or VOD. If connected directly to the TV the AMH will function completely if the TV is a Philips hospitality model from 2005 onwards. If the TV is another make then the AMH will act like a PMH.

Teleadapt™ are actively working other TV manufacturers to enable the AMH to fully function with other TV’s.

Q:Which Philips TV's does the MediaHub work with?
A: The AMH works with the Philips Hospitality range from years 2005 and onwards.

Q: What other brands of TV does the MediaHub work with?
A: The PMH will work with all brands of TV and the AMH will work completely with Philips Hospitality TV’s (2005 onwards) and working with other brands to allow the AMH to function the same. And the AMH will work with all other brands but only in a PMH capacity.

Q: Can you connect the MediaHub directly to other TV brands?
A: You can connect the PMH directly to all TV brands. The AMH can be used with Philips Hospitality range 2005 onwards, however Teleadapt™ are actively working with other brands to develop the AMH for these.

Q: Why do you use such small and connectors as these are difficult to connect?
A: The small connectors are used to reduce the profile size of the PMH and AMH’s; they are also used as space savers.

Q: Why are the cables not pre-fitted to the MediaHub?
A: The cables are not ‘Pre-fitted’ for the following reasons;-
• Clients have different cable needs therefore not all the cables maybe required
• If the cables were ‘Pre-fitted’ they may get dislodged or damaged in transit

Q: What is the maximum cable length between the MediaHub and the TV?
A: The maximum cable length Teleadapt™ currently offer is 3.5m. This is because after this distance the cable signal may reduce. Longer cables are available however this depends on the minimum order quantity (MOQ)

Q: What cable lengths are available?
A: 3.5 Metres, other lengths are available depending on MOQ.

Q: I only need a 1 metre cable length, is this possible?
A: Yes it is possible but the MOQ needs to be met to satisfy the order requirements.

Q: Why is there no Ethernet connection?
A: Teleadapt™ do offer Ethernet connections on other Teleadapt™ products. However there is a possibility of Ethernet inclusion in the MH depending on MOQ.

Q: I want a different set of AV connections on the front panel, is this possible?
A: It is possible to get different AV connections on the MH’s but it depends upon the MOQ.

Q: Can the AV modules be inserted in a different order?

A: The AV modules can be arranged in any order. However this can only be done subject to the MOQ being satisfied.

Q: There is no USB cable supplied, is it possible to pass USB data back to the TV or Set Top Box?
A: Teleadapt™ can supple USB cabling however at the moment very few televisions offer a USB function, for this reason the cabling is not included in the package. The USB socket on the front of the PMH and AMH is currently used for 5 volt power charging but can be adjusted to allow data.

Q: Can you customise the finish and/or style of the MediaHub to match the decor in our Hotel?
A: The appearance of the MH’s can be changed but the MOQ must be satisfied.

Q: Why are there 2 HDMI outputs on the Active MediaHub?
A: There are two HDMi outputs on at the rear of the MH’s for the following reasons:-
• The HDMi only output is for use with HDMi cabled devices such as DVD Players and HD Camcorders. This is a straight through connection.

HDMi Device ? HDMi Output

• The second is the HDMi / VGA output. This allows a client to connect an AMH to the television using the Audio / PC output connector and HDMi output connecter along with the VGA Stub cable if the television doesn’t have a 15 pin VGA socket input.

Q: Why are there two different RCA cables included?
A: The reason two different RCA cables are included is because TV’s can handle RCA cables differently. I.e. Different RCA and S-Video cables and sockets are used on different brands of TV.

Q: What is the 'VGA Stub’ cable for?
A: The ‘VGA Stub’ cable is used to block the VGA output signal when used with the HDMi / VGA cable for VGA to HDMi conversion.

Q: Why have you included a 180 degree SCART adaptor and a CVBS to SCART adaptor?
A: The 180 degree SCART adaptor extends the profile of the SCART adaptor on the back of the TV in cases where the SCART input is obscured.

Q: Where is the VGA to HDMI converter?
A: The VGA to HDMi converter is built into the software and hardware inside the AMH.

Q: What happens when I press a switch?
A: When a switch is pressed on the AMH the selected source will become either active or inactive. The process is as follows:-
Switch pressed –Signal sent to STB / VOD / TV via MH - STB / VOD / TV will then make chosen source active or deactivate source chosen.

Q: What is the minimum depth needed for the wall mount?
A: The minimum depth needed for a wall mounted MH is 45mm.

Q: How does the desk mount kit work?
A: The desk mount kit is fitted to a detached wall mounted MH. This will then turn the MH into a desk mounted MH.

Q: How can the desk mount kit be fastened to the desk or furniture?
A: A desk mounted MH can be attached to e desk via screws or glue.

Q: What is the main use for the HDMI socket?
A: The main uses of the HDMi sources at the moment are DVD players or HD Camcorders.

Q: How does the MediaHub handle the different HDMI standards?
A: Teleadapt™’s MH‘s are able to handle all current HDMi standards.

Q: How does the Active unit integrate with an STB?
A: The AMH integrates with an STB using a RS -232 communication serial protocol.

Q: How does a guest select the auxiliary inputs when a Passive MediaHub is installed?

A: The user must manually select the auxiliary inputs by using the source selector on the STB or TV remote control.

Q: Does the Passive MediaHub have a VGA to HDMI converter?
A: This is not available on the PMH

Q: How does the Active MediaHub control the TV?
A: The AMH sends signals using the programmed software to interact with the TV / STB and therefore control the source selection.

Q: How does auto detect work?
A: When a input on the front of the AMH detects an active device a signal is automatically sent to the TV / STB. The TV / STB will then be instructed to automatically change to the chosen source.

Q: Why does the active input light go off on the MediaHub after 5 minutes?
A: The LED light turns off after 5 minutes to reduce possible light pollution in the guest’s room. If any LED switch is pressed after the 5 minute period with LED that was originally lit will re-illuminate.

Q: If the STB does not have a serial port how do you connect the MediaHub to the STB?
A: If there is no RS-232 serial connector available on the STB it is possible to use a USB to RS-232 converter cable.

Q: The Philips TV we have has 2 control ports, can the STB use one and the MediaHub the other?
A: This is not possible.

Q: How can guests use the without the correct cable?
A: The guest can purchase and use a Teleadapt™ Connectivity Kit.

Q:? What type of devices will most commonly be used on Teleadapt™’s MH’s?
A: IPODS, Laptops, Portable DVD Players, Camera’s, Camcorders and Video games consoles.

Q: Is it possible to have a MH with a power socket?
A: Teleadapt™’s MH’s already have a 5 volt USB power socket. There are other inbuilt power sockets that are currently in development for Teleadapt™’s MH’s.
